Open source OPAC för Voyager
Intressant att någon tagit tag i den undermåliga Webvoyage för Voyager och byggt ihop ett eget gränssnitt. Att de dessutom släpper det som OS är tacksamt.

Hello All,
I am pleased to announce the release of our Next-Gen library catalog browser, VuFind. It is now officially open source code under the GPL and hosted on Sourceforge. We have been working on the application for quite some time now, almost a year, and for the past few months have been working with some local schools to test the application and begin to build some install scripts.
Currently out of the box the software works with the Voyager catalog, but we are working on adding additional drivers to work with your favorite ILS! Even Evergreen and Koha! (If you would like to volunteer to build an ILS Driver, we would highly appreciate the contribution.)
Some of you may recall my presentation at Code4Lib 2007 on our initial efforts of the software using a Native XML Database. Now using the power of Apache Solr, the speeds are astonishing and as we all know, Apache Solr really does rock!

We are currently in a beta stage of development with the software but hope to have all necessary functionality completed by the end of the summer and have a stable production release by the Fall semester. Det ser onekligen väldigt intressant ut. Själv läste jag om det på code4lib i somras, där jag har för mej att dom jämförde mera med Primo än med opac.
Det man färdigställt är ju både mer och mindre än en opac. Det är en sökportal med tidsenligt gränssnitt. Men den adresserar inte problemen med bristfälliga tjänster en traditionell Opac kanske erbjuder. Typ att ställa sej på kö till utlånade böcker, begära upp material från slutna samlingar, placera fjärrlån, göra omlån, uppdatera låntagaruppgifter mm mm. Ibland saknas vitala tjänster i opac, ibland är tjänsterna så sunkigt implementerade att dom driver personal, låntagare och systemansvariga till nervsammanbrottets gräns.
Det kanhända blir nästa stora Open Source-projekt i biblioteksvärlden?
Jag har inte kikat så mycket på dokumentationen. Men det ser ju ut som att man måste ladda databasen med poster från sitt system. Eftersom det är byggt på voyager så borde ju de kopplingarna finnas.
Vufind ser ut att kunna hantera lån och omlån. Reservationer ahr jag inte kunnat hittat så mycket av, svårt att hitta några utl¨ånade böcker i testsystemet.
Överlag så tycker jag att vufind påminner ganska mycket om nya libris webbsök.
Leif, har ni dragit hem vufind på SUB för att jämföra funktionalitet med ert screen scraping projekt?
Primo har jag inte så där jättekoll på, men där bygger man väl index för externa databaser som man söker i, typ som ELIN.
